Aims & Scope

Infancy is the official journal of the International Society on Infant Studies (ISIS). Infancy emphasizes the highest quality original research on normal and aberrant infant development during the first two years. Research from children older than two years of age may be included if the results add to an understanding of infant development. Most of the research will involve human infants, although some infant animal work may also be included. The criteria for acceptance will be rigorous science with logical arguments and conclusions. Any theoretical approach is welcome; the reporting and discussion of statistical effect size when appropriate, as recommended in the APA publication manual, is required. The emphasis of Infancy is on original research articles and brief reports, but target articles with peer commentary will also be included, as well as thematic collections with peer commentary.

A unique aspect of Infancy is that authors will have the opportunity to submit additional archival material such as color photographs, sound files, QuickTime movies, and large data sets to the companion web page, Infancy Archives.

Research Articles: Original research articles that present recent research findings (typically multiple experiments) related to infancy or infant development.

Brief Reports: Short research articles (up to 3,000 words of text) that present recent research findings related to infancy or infant development.

Target Articles With Peer Commentary: Theoretical or research based-articles that present recent research findings and/or theoretical ideas related to infancy or infancy development. Peer commentary will follow target articles; authors are invited to submit suggestions for peer commentators.

Thematic Collections With Peer Commentary: Three or four research-based articles from independent laboratories that contribute new findings on a common topic. Thematic collections will include peer commentary as well. Authors are invited to submit suggestions for commentators along with the submitted collection of articles.
