About the Book

Jean Piaget is unquestionably one of the outstanding figures of twentieth-century psychology. No one since Freud has had such an influence on the subject and his stature as one of the giants of psychology is recognised even by his critics.
By common consent Piaget's work is demanding. His ouput was huge - he was the author and editor of some eighty books and he contributed some five hundred papers and reports. Jean Piaget : Critical Assessments presents in four volumes a selection of the key critical writings on the major themes of Piaget's work. Each volume contains an integral guide to the major papers selected and there is a substantial general introduction (Volume 1) and concluding assessment (Volume 4) by the editor.
The issues in each volume have included contributions dealing with replication, elaboration, application and evaluation of Piaget's work at both empirical and theoretical levels. Further, the selections have been made with due attention to the successive dialogues that have been characteristic of the Piagetian critique.
Piagetian research is a vast and expanding body of interdisciplinary writings and makes more not less demands upon researchers. Jean Piaget: Critical Assessments will provide a welcome and unique guide to this ever more daunting area of study.
